Overcoming Our Giants Part IV: Learn To Climb

Overcoming Our Giants Part IV: Learn To Climb

Life is an uphill battle.

Nothing good ever comes easy and love is never cheap.

If we want to overcome our giants, expect to meet resistance.  David did.

David’s resistance had a name, and his name was Eliab, his oldest brother(1 Samuel 17:28).

Eliab would have sent David home if he had things his way.  After all, what was “the Lord’s anointed” trying to impose as he was too young to see the front lines anyway.

Watching his younger brother be anointed by Samuel rather than himself, especially in a day when the first born child was traditionally the chosen one to inherit a father’s possessions, must have stung a little.

As you chase your dreams and overcome your fears, what’s the name of the resistance meeting you today?

Are we choosing to meet our resistance each day or are we letting our circumstances and maybe even a few nay-sayers get the best of us?

“The good Lord gave us mountains, so we could learn how to climb!” – Lonestar

With that being true, my advice is: learn to climb!

Every Good Soldier

Every day has its own obstacles.

Yet, every good soldier prepares for battle months in advance of the battle.

David learned this while tending his father’s sheep(1 Samuel 17:34-36).

In his spare time, when things were at peace, David would practice the art of slinging stones at trees.

He practiced tirelessly knowing it’s only a matter of time when he meets his first threat to his father’s property.

Then one day, he developed competence to hit anything in eyesight.  Competence turned to confidence. When he met his first victim, confidence gave birth to courage.

Courage later gave David the resolve to stand against a giant named Goliath.

What potential battles do you see in the future that you need to prepare for today?

Successful soldiers learn to act like a leader before anyone gives them a title.

After all, you never know when your commander in charge will fall down leaving you the one to make all the decisions.

As we go on building God’s Kingdom, remember the great among us will have a keen ability to act and live for today knowing the fruits of their efforts will be seen and rewarded tomorrow.

The proactive among us are able to foresee potential obstacles and learn how to navigate them now!

How can you be proactive in your faith, your finances, your relationships, and your contributions to God’s church today?
