Jesus’ Story
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” – Matthew 6:34 NLT
No one, and I mean no one, had more reason to worry about their future than Jesus.
Imagine living a reality in which you know your own death. You are fully aware of what the prophets spoke concerning you. Your future leads to being mocked, beaten, horrendously tortured, and eventually dying.
Imagine you will live a life without old age, without a spouse, without the joy of grandchildren. By the way, if you fail to live out even the smallest of God’s laws and fail to fulfill your duties as the only Son of God, the whole world is doomed to fail.
I’ll be honest, I don’t perform well under pressure and Jesus had more pressure put on Him than any of us can fathom.
Yet, amidst outrageous odds and tremendous pressure, our Sovereign King said these words:
“For my yoke is easy to bear and the burden I give you is light.” – Matthew 11:30 NLT
Clearly, despite the external pressures of saving His people, Jesus lived in tremendous freedom and joy. He lived by His words in Matthew 6:34 as He was not “phased” by His eminent death until the very night He would be betrayed.
My Story
Although the pressure around me to succeed in life is far less abundant, I find myself “worrying about tomorrow” on many occasions.
Recently, though, I’ve found victory in the simple obedience of taking on the world “one day at a time.”
The truth is a 1000 mile hike is overcome 1 step at a time.
The voice ringing in my head always begs the question:
“Ethan, what can you do today to march toward your dreams?”
Your Story
What about you?
What dreams, what goals, what deadlines are hanging over your head? Can you move one step today in that direction?
If the answer is “yes,” make a plan and take that step!
If the answer is “no,” lay your worries at the feet of Jesus!
He has the power to overcome. Allow Him to carry your burdens. Yes, the ones you weren’t meant to carry alone. Yes, the ones that have weighed you down to the point you feel like giving up, like letting it all go, like surrendering in defeat.
If you can’t change anything about your worries today, you need to give your worries to the One who can. 🙂
If you find yourself reading this, I may not know who you are, but know I am praying over this post. My prayer is simply that today, wherever you find yourself, the Lord will give you rest. I pray you find power in the responses to your own prayers and that God brings peace in your life today.
Until next time, God bless.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
